Starship Troopers Review
By Robert A. Heinlein
Do not base your decision to read this book on the Starship Troopers campy movie that shares the same name. Starship Troopers is a book is a perfect study in the power of science fiction to examine human society through extrapolation of technology. Starship Troopers explores not only the way technology changes life, but politics. In this book, mankind has passed through a terrible world war and has formed a new world government based around the concepts of earned citizenship, public corporal and capital punishment and civic responsibility. The back drop to Starship Troopers is a galactic war being fought against a race of insect like aliens and the book follows the actions and inner thoughts and philosophizing of Johnny Rico, a Cap soldier in the inter stellar marines. A cap soldier is roughly equivalent to one of our days paratroopers.
